| BEFORE Psalm 42 (DRV) | AFTER Psalm 43 (NABRE) |
| Judge me, O God, and distinguish my cause from the nation that is not holy: deliver me from the unjust and deceitful man. For thou art God my strength: why hast thou cast me off? and why do I go sorrowful whilst the enemy afflicteth me? Send forth thy light and thy truth: they have conducted me, and brought me unto thy holy hill, and into thy tabernacles. And I will go in to the altar of God: to God who giveth joy to my youth. To thee, O God my God, I will give praise upon the harp: why art thou sad, O my soul? and why dost thou disquiet me? Hope in God, for I will still give praise to him: the salvation of my countenance, and my God. | Grant me justice, O God; defend me from a faithless people; from the deceitful and unjust rescue me. You, O God, are my strength. Why then do you spurn me? Why must I go about mourning, with the enemy oppressing me? Send your light and your fidelity, that they may be my guide; Let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place of your dwelling, That I may come to the altar of God, to God, my joy, my delight. Then I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God. Why are you downcast, my soul? Why do you groan within me? Wait for God, for I shall again praise him, my savior and my God. |
Why is this change important?
“Man” is removed: “deliver me from the unjust and deceitful man” vs “from the deceitful and unjust rescue me”. I’m not sure why this was changed: “to God who giveth joy to my youth” is not the same as “to God, my joy, my delight.” “and your truth” is not the same as “and your fidelity”. “Hope in God” is not same as “Wait for God” even though hope always involves waiting.
