From An Enemy Has Done This

Scripture Genesis 3:15[edit source]

Genesis 3:15 DRV Genesis 3:15 RSV-CE
I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

This text change is a perfect example of how text changes can be very substantial. "She" is not "He". Also "She" is not equal to the serpent. The serpent is clearly inferior in the DRV translation. She crushes not merely bruises and the serpent does not bruise her heal, he is compelled by God not to bruise, but to "lie in wait" for the crushing to come. St. Jerome who is the author of the Latin Vulgate and who had access to many Hebrew and Greek texts that have been lost to history used the latin term "ipsa" which means she, not "ipso" which means he. The DRV version uses St. Jerome's term, "ipsa", and correctly translates it to "she".

Scripture Luke 2:14[edit source]

Luke 2:14 DRV Luke2:14 KJV
Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

The text in the DRV is consistent with the reality of lived experience. It is obvious to all that peace in the world has not been ushered in by the birth of Christ our Savior. However, it is also consistent with countless saints and all men and women of good will, that is to say those who cooperate with God's superabundant graces, are given that peace that passes all understanding.

Scripture Luke 1:38[edit source]

Luke 1:38 DRV Luke 1:38 NIV
And Mary said: "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word." "I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.”

Servants are male and handmaids are female

Scripture Luke 1:48[edit source]

Luke 1:48 DRV Luke 1:48 NABRE
"Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed." "For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed."

Humility does not have same meaning as lowliness. I suspect this might be Marxist ideology creeping in which is always trying to convince us that if a person is poor, they are virtuous. Material poverty is independent of virtue. There are greedy rich and greedy poor. There are lazy rich and lazy poor. Jesus came to save us all. Humility is required to enter heaven. Lowliness itself has no merit without humility.

Scripture Luke 1:52[edit source]

Luke 1:52 DRV Luke 1:52 NABRE
"He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble." "He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly."

Humble is not lowly. Humility is the virtue with which Mary crushes the pride of the ancient serpent.
