“Glory Be…” Prayer in Divine Office

Innocuous Egregious
BEFORE
1962 – Roman Breviary
AFTER
1970 – Roman Breviary
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Why is this change important?

This is typical of the modernists who like change for change sake. The underlying meaning is still close to the Latin. It creates another discontinuity with our English speaking ancestors.  For those new to the divine office prayers, it creates a cognitive dissonance. All minimally catechized Catholics have this prayer memorized. So, it causes a disruption in the mind when it suddenly ends differently. For a deeper analysis see
